Mary, age 31, attorney.

For about 10 years, I suffered from sporadic acute abdominal pains, especially after meals. More recently, random pains in articulation have started to appear. I turned to Medical Concierge and, after collecting all the information about my condition, I was put in contact with two specialists in the gastro-enterological and rheumatological fields. They set up a series of laboratory tests and through one of their doctors, I was able to obtain an ultra specialist defining consultation. The situation being understood, they pinpointed a renowned internist in Germany who kept me under constant observation for three days. The diagnosis was inflammatory pathology of auto-immunitary origin. With an appropriate cure, I no longer feel the pain. Medical Concierge sets up annual check-ups for me.

Mark, age 31, businessman.

I travel a great deal for my work. During a trip to Guatemala, I began to suffer from acute abdominal pains. I immediately contacted Medical Concierge to speak with one of their doctors who, after a brief discussion, told me he suspected a parasitic infection and suggested I have a faeces test carried out. I went to a local facility, where I immediately understood it to be inadequate, even for such a simple examination. I again called Medical Concierge, which organised the safe shipment of biological material to one of their reference laboratories in the United States. The examination confirmed the suspected diagnosis, and Medical Concierge shipped the drug to me, as it was not available in Guatemala.

Philip, age 62, manager.

I was on a business trip to Romania, and I began to feel a pain in my right side in combination with very poor digestion. I called Medical Concierge for a prescription for a drug that would relieve the pain. Medical Concierge recommended a video conference with one of their doctors that I made from my hotel, also transmitting my vital parameters collected by the use of the instrumentation received in the kit (Wrist Clinic). The doctor diagnosed a liver problem and sent a prescription for a drug for me by fax to the pharmacy closest to my hotel. They also organised the picking up and delivery of the drug to my room. The next day I was able to continue my meetings as scheduled.

Nicholas, age 44, managing director.

I was on holiday. I had undergone reconstructive surgery on my right wrist a few weeks earlier. One morning I began to complain of extreme pain in my arm. I called Medical Concierge to request a prescription for painkillers. The operator who responded recommended that I speak with one of the doctors. The doctor became suspicious of my symptoms and, after analyzing my vital parameters, recommended I be admitted to hospital. The operators indicated one of the affiliated centres for me to turn to. In an hour, I was diagnosed with a serious infectious complication in the hand operated on, which, if not immediately seen to, could have been seriously life-threatening. I was immediately operated on and redirected to a more suitable rehabilitation program.

Andrew, age 39, sales manager.

Because of my height, as a young man I played basketball. Now at my age when I practice, I feel pain in my hip. I was not worried, but I asked Medical Concierge to arrange an appointment with an orthopaedist. Unfortunately, my schedule is very full, so I was free only at certain hours. The operators were not fazed and located a centre open where I underwent a magnetic resonance (MRI) exam. Three days later the images were sent to one of their contacts in France, a renowned orthopaedic surgeon for a second opinion. Ten days later, on returning from one of my trips, I was operated on at a facility in Lombardy for the replacement of the femoral head. The operation was performed by a French surgeon, whose presence had been coordinated by Medical Concierge. The following week I was already travelling again.

Lucy, age 30 months.

When my daughter was diagnosed with lung cancer, I panicked. Once the initial shock passed, I immediately called Medical Concierge, and on the other end a reassuring voice told me that they would take action at once. I sent them her medical records and they immediately requested a second opinion from a panel of international doctors who, without delay, took our case to heart. They established that, to succeed in the operation, it would be necessary to apply a very sophisticated technique still in the experimental phase. A hospital in Tel Aviv was found to be the most advanced centre at that time in the technique that had to be applied. Medical Concierge took charge in arranging for the operation, the flights, hotels, the insurance paperwork, the contacts with the doctors, and arrangements for payments. We had only to think of our daughter. Thanks to all, the surgery was successful.

Thomas, age 40, banker.

I recently became a user of Medical Concierge when I happened to need it. I spent a very restless night and woke up still tired and a bit dazed. I took a shower and on getting out, I took a misstep and I slipped, hitting my head. I got up feeling dizzy and I called Medical Concierge asking to speak with one of their doctors. The doctor who answered asked me several questions, he asked me to hook up via a videoconferencing link, and we went through some exercises. He asked me how much time I had available, I told him half an hour; I was then asked to lie down for this time period, at the end of which he called back. Continuing with videoconferencing, we repeated the exercises, and he confirmed that there was nothing wrong and that I could continue with my work day.

Maximilian, age 45, businessman.

I gave Medical Concierge service to my parents for a Christmas present; in fact, they often called on me to help solve some medical problem, but I realised that I was not able to keep in touch as much as I would have liked. My mother had had a joint operated on one day and was released the following morning. That evening at home she started to have breathing difficulties; my father was worried and did not know whether to take her to the emergency room or call an ambulance. He called Medical Concierge, and one of their doctors asked him to take an electrocardiogram by means of the (Wrist Clinic) instrumentation which was included in the service. A few minutes later he was called and told that there was no problem, and all he had to do was administer one of the pills that she usually takes.

Rachel, age 28.

I was leaving on a trip to a tropical area and I was running late, as usual. To be on the safe side, I called Medical Concierge to see if there were any special medical instructions to be followed for the country that I would be visiting. They gave me some pointers and brought to my attention the fact of the need for vaccinations. I started to panic but they immediately reassured me; they arranged for me to be vaccinated the very same day at one of their centres and put me in touch with one of their doctors. After a brief chat, the doctor realised at once that I could not be vaccinated against malaria because of a special condition of mine. He then suggested that I avoid one of the stops on my trip but for the remainder I was fine. It was a fantastic holiday.
